Siouxland Missouri River Clean-up
June 7 , 2008
9:00am to noon
Located at the adjoining points of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, Siouxland is a prime example of separate states, counties and cities working together to create one united community. The Riverfront is emerging as one of the area’s crown jewels. Two boat ramps, acres of parks, hotels, a welcome center, restaurant, marina, and recreational, cultural, and historical attractions line the Big Muddy’s banks. Siouxlanders are intimately aquainted with the River. 1 in 4 households has a boat. Recreation on and along the Big Muddy is high and growing.
This is our first clean-up in this major Missouri River metro area. On our first time to visit, during our 2006 MegaScout Trash Survey, we were amazed by the homes directly on the riverbanks, the massive marinas full of recreational boats and how clear the water was compared to our turbid muddy river down in Missouri. We are very excited to come back and work with these folks that obviously love their river!
We will stage out of ramps located at Scenic Park on the Nebraska side of the River and the DNR public ramp on the Iowa side of the river, offering easy access from highways and neighborhoods. We expect a large turnout in our inaugural event. Our Crew has been welcomed warmly by this community.
